Abstract
The article is devoted to a review of the creative activity of one of the leading artists of modern-day Mongolia, Danzanbaljir Enkhtaivan. An art-historical analysis of his works helps to consider specific means of stylistic expression which are in vague in modern Mongolian art. By combining the practice of traditional Buddhist painting with a realistic style borrowed from the Russian school and modernist trends, it provides an opportunity to form a unique artistic strategy. Its implementation makes it possible to use the advantages of different stylistic systems, combining their expressive techniques within one single painting. Their skilful use has allowed the Mongolian artist to build a complex content in his pictorial works which include reflections on the national history and unique destiny of Mongolia. Enkhtaivan, a graduate of the Repin Institute in Leningrad, has mastered the painting techniques that form the basis of both Western European and Russian art to perfection. His unique ability to express the characteristic world-view of the Mongol people with sharp distinctness sets him apart from other painters. His art is characterized by a high level of professionalism, evident in his confident drawing, balanced compositions, and harmonious colour combinations. Additionally, Enkhtaivan's work reflects a clear understanding of his national identity, rooted in his connection to the cultural traditions of his country and people. By working at the intersection of different style systems, Enkhtaivan has been able to expand the semantic content of his paintings, infusing them with complex reflections and allusions.
