No. 4 (19) (2020): The history of collecting: philanthropists, collectors, museum founders
The history of collecting: philanthropists, collectors, museum founders

Issue No. 4 (19) 2020 of the Art of Eurasia Journal is dedicated to the patrons, art collectors, amazing collections. From the latter, museum collections began to form, many are an adornment and a source of pride for some museum. This issue opens the publication of articles, and in the next issues we will continue to acquaint you with research on this topic.

In the section “Art of the XX–XXI centuries” you can get acquainted with the outstanding masters of modernity from Volgograd to Primorye, such as V. Shehunov, G. Rokchinsky, N. Sysoeva. Also, our authors managed to open previously little-known pages in the life of artists of one of the centers of art of our country — Yekaterinburg and share their experience of conducting high-profile art projects in Primorye.

The section “Eurasian Heritage” unites articles about phenomena in art, separated by time and great distances — from Northern Mongolia, Khakasia, Khanty-Mansi Autonomous Okrug — Ugra. These works of masters have a lot in common — a rich imagination, a high sense of artistic form, a desire for artistic expressiveness, and a deep mythopoetic layer that unites the artistic heritage of the peoples of Eurasia. Studying the work of mostly unknown masters, art historians reconstruct a set of canonical images that have preserved their symbolism and bright artistic form over the centuries.

Bright exhibition events and publications can be found in the traditional headings “Academy News”, "Ex Libris", new translations of Lokesh Chandra's materials — in the section “Dictionary of Buddhist Iconography”.
