Authors Guide

Submitting and preparing an article for publication

The Journal accepts articles in Russian, English and Chinese all year round in accordance with the following rules.

Only previously unpublished scientific articles, analytical reviews of exhibitions, specialized competitions and forums, the results of theoretical and applied research, scientific and educational materials about the theory and history of art, architecture and design are accepted.

Due to the spread of the practice of using artificial intelligence (AI) programs, including in the preparation, writing and reviewing of scientific articles, the editorial board of “The Art of Eurasia” Journal considers it necessary to focus the attention of authors on the Policy on the use of generative AI.

One of the most important standards of publication ethics promoted by COPE and accepted by the majority of scientific journals states that the same research should not be published twice. The Journal accepts papers in Russian, English or Chinese languages. In the latter case, two versions of the paper are published in the electronic form on the website, and one (the authors have to choose either Russian or English/Chinese) version – in the printed form. Both versions share the same digital object identifier (DOI) and bibliographic details are almost the same, except for page numbers having additional prefix in the electronic-only version. Thus, from the point of view of scientometrics, these two versions in different languages constitute a single publication.

You can read the description of the headings of the journal in the section Topics.

Before submitting materials to the journal, the author is obliged to read the terms of the author's contract published on the journal's website www.eurasia-art.ru.

Author's contract on the publication of copyright materials in the scientific electronic journal “The Art of Eurasia”

The author submits an article in electronic version through the submission form on the journal's website or by e-mail publish@eurasia-art.ru. The set of materials includes:

  • an application signed by the author (separate for each of the co-authors);
  • a text of the article, designed in accordance with the template and the rules described below;
  • illustration files in jpeg, png format (resolution – at least 300 dpi);
  • a list of captions for illustrations;
  • photographs of the authors of the article.

The editorial notifies the author of the article receipt and its direction for formal examination. The editor assesses the correspondence of the article to the subject matter and general requirements of the journal (completeness of materials, metadata accuracy and consistency, correct text formatting, quality of illustrative material). At this stage, all articles are checked for the unfair textual borrowing, appropriation of research results and incorrect self-citation using the Antiplagiat resource.

Once the decision has been made to peer-review the paper, the editor sends the article for review to specialists in this scientific field. The journal uses "double-blind" peer review (see: Peer Review Process), the results of which are reported to the author. The stages of the process are tracked on the journal's website in the author's personal account. The author can contact the editor with a request to clarify the term of consideration of the article.

If the article is accepted pending revisions, the author is sent a list of the issues that need improvement. Once these issues are adjusted for, the manuscript will receive another review prior to publication made, as a rule, by the same referees.

After that, the editorial staff performs editorial processing of the article accepted for publication: corrects the text, processes illustrations, and performs the layout of the article.

The layout of the article must be sent to the author for proofreading. After approval of the layout with the author, no claims are considered by the editors.

The time from the receipt of the article to its publication depends on the subject of the issue, the relevance of the article, the efficiency of the reviewer and the further work of the author with the editor. As practice shows, this takes from one to six months, depending on the factors listed.

The rejection of the manuscript is final. The journal does not provide for the resubmission of papers previously declined based on peer review results.

Genres of Articles: Guidelines

Scholarly article

The scholarly article must be structured in accordance with the rules below. It must include a statement of the issue, a description, and the characteristics of the material the article is based on (headings Eurasian heritage, Forum, Art of the XX–XXI centuries, In storerooms and expositions of museums and art galleries, Philosophy and theory of art). It is also advisable that the article is further divided into shorter structural parts with their own subtitles. At the same time, there is no point in splitting the article without an urgent need. The article should end with a conclusion in accordance with the problem posed.

The article must be followed by an annotation, keywords and a comprehensive list of references, which, in turn, must only include sources referred to in the article.

Plagiarism is not tolerated. The article must be free from the unfair textual borrowing, appropriation of research results and incorrect self-citation. In cases of self-citation, authors must indicate the source of the previously published information and substantiate the need to refer to such a source. Authors should explain why the submitted article is necessary and how it will contribute to the established scholarship.

Joint works are accepted for publication and are subject to double-blind peer review. When submitting such an article, the authors must specify who will communicate with the editors during the publication process.

Reviews

Reviews analysing modern research or the history behind the study of some issues must be accompanied by a comprehensive reference list with sources both in the author’s mother tongue and other languages. Considering the interests of the Journal’s readers, it is preferable for a review containing Russian research data to be provided in English, and vice versa. Reviews must be analytical. It is essential that the research or artistic project reviewed should be put into an international context of contemporary art history. Such articles must be accompanied by abstracts in two languages, keywords and two reference lists.

Reviews of scientific and exhibition activities of certain museums, galleries and other cultural centres include a description of interesting and constructive research and exhibition projects (heading Vernissage). In such a review, it is also preferable to clarify the contribution of certain creative leaders to scientific and exhibition developments, to give the most significant results of projects. The publication may contain both a description of one project and the most significant scientific and exhibition achievements over the past 5 years.

Essays

When referring to the philosophy and theory of art there are several possible directions:

  1. academic narrative, when philosophical and theoretical studies in the field of art history are published (heading Philosophy and Theory of Art);
  2. A scholar’s academic biography meant to draw the readers’ attention to their ideas and research. It is advised to focus on the scientific and philosophical achievements of the scientist. Such articles must contain references to preceding works on the scholar and his or her most important monographs and articles.

All articles must be supplied with abstracts, keywords and reference lists.

References

Reference list: requirements and examples (download)

The article is followed by two lists of References. The first one must follow the Russian National Citation Index standard and be provided in the language of the original, including the place of publication, publishing house, year, and the number of pages. In case of a DOI (Digital Object Identifier), it must also be provided. The second list of References must follow the international system adopted by the Journal (Harvard System standard in Cite Them Right 11th edition).

There must always be names of publishing houses, numbers of pages, and, in case of articles, page range of the article in descriptions. When referring to an electronic resource, it is important to use its URL and the mode of access. For any electronic resource, authors must provide all the relevant data (resource (a journal or collection of articles), the name of the website, etc.).

German, French and other sources in Latin are not translated and are given in the original. If the titles of articles and books in the original are not written in Latin (for example, Arabic writing, Cyrillic, Indian writing systems, hieroglyphs and other types of writing), then they are translated into English and given after the original in square brackets.

Please find out the exact spelling of names of foreign authors in the original, as they can be distorted in the process of translation or transliteration.

For each bibliographic record, it is necessary to find the correct (used by the author of the cited source) translation of the title of the article and the title of the journal (which are presented in square brackets). If you cannot find a verified translation, you can suggest your translation. Then the citation of the article will be correctly considered.

If the author of the book is unknown, the editor or compiler is indicated in the place of the author's name: Warren L. (ed.) or Lee W. (comp.).

References contain only the sources mentioned in the article. They are listed in the order they appear in the text. Works that are not referenced in the text are not included in the list of references.

All names and addresses provided by the authors on the website of the Journal shall only be used for technical purposes in the publication process to contact authors and reviewers. Under no circumstances shall they be disclosed to third parties or organizations. If an article is accepted for publication, the authors consent to disclose some of their personal data for the purposes of publication and On the Authors section of the Journal.

Retraction

The editorial of the Journal examines the material with the help of the Antiplagiat system. Retraction of an already published article is an extreme measure and is applied in case of revealing facts that were not known during the review, such as:

  • a significant proportion of incorrect borrowing (plagiarism) was found;
  • the findings were previously published in another edition, and there is no proper reference, authorization and justification for the need for re-publication (i.e. cases of multiple publication);
  • the whole article was published in another edition;
  • there is clear evidence of the inaccuracy of the data as a result of bona fide error or conscious violations.

To identify unethical practices, the editorial board is guided by the recommendations of the Committee on publication ethics (COPE)the Ministry of Education and Science of the Russian Federation and the Association of Scientific Editors and Publishers (ANRI).

The editors regularly re-check (in one year and in two years) already published materials for borrowings. This check allows avoiding multiple publications, as well as identify incorrect borrowings that could not be detected at the time of publication of articles due to the lack of available materials in open access.
