No. 2 (21) (2021): The collectors and the collections: destinies, stories, masterpieces
The collectors and the collections: destinies, stories, masterpieces

No. 2 (21) of "The Art of Eurasia" Journal continues a series of studies on collectors and collections. The passion and scientific-collecting thoroughness of collectors never ceases to amaze. Art collectors have not only the role of pioneers in the art world. Very often they return the attention of art critics and art lovers to the types of creativity that are undeservedly underestimated or were suddenly forgotten. As, for example, it happened with the Florentine mosaic, which unexpectedly found its own museum in the family of L. and B. Oshkukovs in St. Petersburg. Studies on collectors and patrons are published in the "Forum" section.

The section "Eurasian Heritage" in this issue tells about the amazing art of gold embroidery of nomadic peoples. The heroes of the articles in the section "Art of the XX–XXI centuries are Vasily Perebbchikov and Maria Maslennikova, they are united by their love for the landscape and filling it with the poetic spirit. In the traditional section "Dictionary of Buddhist Iconography", which contains translations of the multivolume work of Academician Lokesh Chandra, we present an article about one of the ten outstanding disciples of the Buddha – Ananda. This image is one of the favorite and repeatedly used in Buddhist iconography, so the article about Ananda will be both interesting and useful for everyone who conducts research in the field of Buddhist art and meets him, for example, at exhibitions. The “Academy News”, one of the most lively and diverse sections on the subject, provides an opportunity to get acquainted with the work of artists who play a leading role in the modern art process in our country.
