No. 4 (7) (2017): 260 Years of the Russian Academy of Arts
Issue № 4 (7) 2017 of “The Art of Eurasia” Journal is dedicated to the 260th anniversary of the Russian Academy of Arts, its formation and current state.
The issue opens with a greeting from the President of the Russian Academy of Arts Zurab Tsereteli to cultural and art workers.
The main heading of this issue focuses on the challenges of the modern academic school of arts, analysis of the main aesthetic principles of the Russian Academy of Arts. The historical context is reinforced by the story about the activities of Duke Maximilian of Leuchtenberg as President of the Academy. And modern achievements are shown at the exhibition dedicated to the 260th anniversary of the RAA, which demonstrated a new format and capabilities of media technologies.
The section “Art of the 20th — 21st centuries” contains studies of the work of the Primorye artist Kirill Shebeko, one of the earliest representatives of realistic genre painting Nikolai Sverchkov, and the modern sculptor Sergei Milchenko.
The article by Adolf Ovchinnikov under the heading “Eurasian heritage” is very polemical. Monumental painting: the dispute between the “theoreticians” and the restorers — that is the subject of the discussion of the ancient Russian art restorer of the highest qualification, a truly encyclopedist.
The article dedicated to Svetoslav Roerich presents not only a remarkable artist, but also an original philosopher and art critic, a foreign honorary member of the Russian Academy of Arts.
The heading “In storerooms and expositions of museums and art galleries” provides an overview of private collections of paintings in the Museum of the Academy of Arts, and also presents the history of the origin and peculiarities of collecting coins and medals, modern possibilities of museum and private collecting of works of medallic art.
