Abstract
The All-Russian Academy of Arts (AAA) was founded in Leningrad in 1932, and it existed until 1947. The history of All-Russian Academy of Arts has not been studied enough, despite there is the serious interest of researchers to the problems of the Soviet art of the 1930s and 1940s. It is important to identify the role of the All-Russian Academy of Arts in the reconstruction of the Soviet academic system of art education and in the development of art in general. The article attempts to reconstruct the history of the All-Russian Academy of Arts on the basis of documents and publications in the departmental newspaper “For Socialist Realism”. The method of reconstruction, art criticism and comparative analysis is used to characterize of the most important stages of the formation of the All-Russian Academy of Arts and to identify its role in the development of Soviet art of the mid-twentieth century. The study also examines the participation in the academy’s life of the largest representatives: I.I. Brodsky, I.E. Grabar, B.V. Ioganson etc.
