Abstract

The article examines the results of a scientific study by employees of the Luhansk Art Museum of icon-painting monuments of church art of the late 18th – early 20th centuries in the Luhansk region. The author gives a brief historical picture of the development of icon painting in the region. The study indicates the main temples in which the ancient icons that have preserved to this day are concentrated, describes the most prominent of them. The researcher distinguishes two large groups of studied icons: painted for churches and small icons for home worship. Each of the groups has its own hierarchy in terms of the level of professional training of icon painters.
