Thought in the work of Rodin

Abstract

The article analyzes the theme of thought in the artistic heritage of Rodin. Based on the analysis of Rodin's creativity In R. M. Rilke's book "Auguste Rodin", the author proves, referring to Rodin's own statements about art, that he considered the universal geometric shapes and thoughts of the Universe an important basis for it, which the artist is able to learn and embody. Rodin's works are analyzed, where the theme of thought is clearly reflected ("Thinker", "Thought", "Contemplation") and where it is implicitly present as the main theme ("Gates of hell", "Balzac", sculptural portraits of V. Hugo). An important idea of the lack of progress in art, which Rodin has repeatedly expressed and justified, is investigated here.
