Abstract

The article is devoted to the development and current state of the leading art industries in the Urals and, in particular the activities of the Research Institute of the Art Industry, whose specialists took an active part in creating samples of decorative products for mass production and exhibition programs. The history of traditional Zlatoust engraving is considered in detail; it is shown that throughout the 20th century, the tasks of its preservation and plans to expand the production of consumer goods of a mass assortment periodically came into conflict with each other. It is noted that an important stage in the history of the Zlatoust engraving was the cooperation of the enterprise with the leading specialists of the Institute and the artist M.D. Rakov, who proposed a number of sketches, which were highly appreciated.
