Abstract
The development of the academic icon in Russia from the seventeenth century to the present day is discussed in this article. The author analyses the collection of academic iconography in the State Art Museum of Altai Krai on the basis of historical processes. It is concluded that mastery of the icon painter and the accomplishment of his sacred mission – creation of liturgical image – is very important for creation of the icon.
