Abstract
The author in this article reviews the artworks of the artist N. B. Achitaev in the context of the development of woodcarving in Khakassia. The origins of the Khakass woodcarving belong to the Tashtyk archaeological culture (II century BC – V century AD). Over the next time, craftsmen retain and develop contour and notch carving techniques. The research material is national plots, motifs, and ornaments in carvings that decorate furniture, dishes, musical instruments, poles, etc. Nikolai Achitaev belongs to modern masters who combined in their work the national flavor with the features of a new style. Among the features of the works by N. B. Achitaev are a combination of materials (wood, metal), the use of a forgotten inlay technique, a figurative series.
