Abstract

The article focuses on the involvement of the Kyshtym Mining Plants, owned by the heirs of L.I. Rastorguev, in the 16th All-Russian Industrial and Art Exhibition of 1896 in Nizhny Novgorod. This exhibition played a significant role in the development of Kasli artistic cast iron casting, one of the most popular areas of the art industry in Russia. Through the use of archival materials, the author has reconstructed the main colour schemes used by architect A.I. Shirshov for the decorative design of the Kyshtym Mining Plants' display case-veranda and its dominant feature, the openwork cast-iron Kasli pavilion. Additionally, a previously unpublished black-and-white photograph of the exhibition display case has been discovered. The study also reveals that the graphic sketch of the monument “Balkans 1877–1878” by sculptor N.A. Laveretsky served as an artistic prototype for the creation of the cabinet sculpture “Russia” in 1895. Furthermore, it has been established that the Kasli cast-iron figure “Russia” was presented to Emperor Nicholas II on July 19, 1896, and that the Chief Manager of the Kyshtym Mining Plants, P.M. Karpinsky, participated in the ceremonial presentation of the world-famous jewellery “Basket of Lilies of the Valley” by the firm of K. Fabergé to Empress Alexandra Feodorovna. Based on an artistic and stylistic analysis, the author has made a new attribution of authorship for three Kasli cabinet sculptures that were presented at the All-Russian Exhibition of 1896.
