Issue № 3 (10) 2018 of “The Art of Eurasia” Journal is dedicated to Auguste Rodin. The Russian Academy of Arts held a conference on the 100th anniversary of the death of the great sculptor. Rodin's work is inexhaustible in terms of aesthetic experiences and knowledge of the deep ideas that he embodied in his art, and his truly global influence on sculpture is great, which is revealed in the articles in the section “Forum”.
The heading “Eurasian Heritage” is about architecture this time. Its research focuses on the Ahmad Shah mosque, the temple architecture of Mongolia. Along with the famous masterpieces of architecture, we are pleased to present an ensemble from the Kinnaur Valley in Northern India — the Bhimakali temple in Sarakhan, which is still undeservedly little studied in Russian and Western art studies.
In the heading “Art of the 20th — 21st centuries” we paid attention to the landscape genre. It attracts with its openness and seeming simplicity, not only reflects the views of nature, but also, as J. Ortega y Gasset said, “landscapes of the soul” of the artist, and this is the most valuable thing in it. There are studies of the artworks by Stanislav Zhukovsky, as well as “rationalism” in landscape painting of the sixties in this section. There is also an article devoted to the works of Ernst Ludwig Kirchner, who, along with Ernst Barlach and Wilhelm Lehmbruck, is one of the greatest masters of sculpture in the first third of the 20th century.
Article of “Dictionary of Buddhist Iconography by Lokesh Chandra” this time is about the goddess Kali, canons and variants of her image.
In the section “Philosophy and Theory of Art”, we gave the floor to Pavel Florensky, an outstanding thinker, art critic, endowed with extraordinary intuition. A fragment of his work on reverse perspective seemed interesting to many: a vivid analysis of the serious problem of reverse perspective in art, interesting lines of thought that prompt their own reflections and reveal a lot of new things in the complex art of the Middle Ages.
Articles about exhibitions at the Russian Academy of Arts you can find in the section “Academy News”.
