Abstract
The article examines the position and place of non-professional Sverdlovsk-Ekaterinburg artists in the last third of the twentieth century. These are balancing on the borders of marginality or being in its borderline states: Valery Gavrilov (1948–1982) and Zinaida Gavrilova (1974–1993), E.M. Malakhin or the old man B.U. Kashkin (1938–2005), the first generation of unofficial artists of the 1970s – 1980s; D.P. Devyatov (born 1968), L. Lugovoi (born 1964), etc., the second generation of unofficial artists of 1980s – 1990s. The subject of the study was both the artists themselves and their associations, as well as their creative experiments with materials, forms, and motifs. The author finds in the works of non-professional artists stylistic parallels with the classics of surrealism, cubism, constructivism, naive, outsider art and art brut, at the same time noting the rebellious spirit and postmodern experiments in the artistic and figurative interpretation of the visible world.
