Abstract
The Russian Academy of Arts presents a retrospective exhibition of works of sculpture, painting and graphics by Corresponding Member of the Russian Academy of Arts Alexander Levanovich Shengelia. The exposition makes it possible to trace the evolution of the artist’s work from his student years to the present, introduces his author’s searches in various types and genres of fine art. A graduate of the Moscow State Academic Art Institute named after V.I. Surikov, a student of the famous L.E. Kerbel, Alexander Shengelia is best known for his easel and monumental sculpture. Virtuosity, sophisticated decorativeness, inexhaustible imagination and creative fearlessness - these are perhaps his main distinguishing features. His works are characterized by deep content, variety of themes, originality of compositional solutions. The artist equally masters the skill of academic modeling and plastic stylization.
