Abstract

The Regional Department of the Academy of Arts of the USSR (now – Russia) in Krasnoyarsk was set up in 1987 during the hard transitional period of ‘perestroika’. First years of work of the Siberian-Far Eastern Department were coloured with romantic yearning for contributing its greatest share to artistic life of not only the region but also of the whole country. In this atmosphere the Art Institute, artists’ workshops of the Academy were founded, twice a year there were great events – All-Union and All-Russia conferences and seminars with participation of artists, architects and art critics from different regions of Russia and republics of the former Soviet Union. It is at that time the foundations of the successful activities of the Department were laid down: connections between the regions of Siberia and Far East were set going, a library and collection of works of leading artists of the country were created.
