Abstract

The article analyzes contemporary development of traditions in the national glassmaking of Belarus. The main issue of the paper is the practice of glass installation in the Belarusian art, which had been established in the end of the 20th – the beginning of the 21st centuries. The roots of glass installations are placed in two spatial models of glass object(s): monumental composition and decorative-spatial one. The changes in methods and techniques of glassmaking led to the evolution of the rhetoric of author's messages. Glass has become a specific medium for their embodiments. As well glass has become involved in the experimental form of interaction with perception, the objective world, a visual and speculative space. Along with decorative glassmaking, the middle generation of Belarusian artists turns to the more complicated forms of art installation. Synthetic character of contemporary glass installation in Belarus reflects the wide range of creative researches by current participants of Belarusian art process.
