Abstract

The article deals a complete handwritten catalogue of the collection of paintings of Vice-Chancellor A.M. Golitzin — one of the largest private art collections in Russia, created at the same time as the imperial collection in the second half of the 18th century. The catalogue is keeping in the Department of manuscripts of the Hermitage Museum. This document is shown in the comparison with other catalogues of the collections of painting, which existed in Russia in the 18th century: it is defined its typology, analyzed the text of the descriptions of the paintings; the stages and chronological frames of the text of the catalogue are determined; it is revealed the value of the catalogue as a document of the epoch that allows to reconstruct collection and to identify paintings based on analysis of descriptions of paintings, auction catalogues of sales of the collection and research in the provenance of works in museums’ collections. The article presents 14 identified paintings from the collection of A.M. Golitzin.
