Abstract
Starting with this issue, we, with the permission of Lokesh Chandra, publish translations of individual articles of the Dictionary of Buddhist Iconography (New Delhi, 2005) translated by S.M. Belokurova. We keep the transcription of the Tibetan spelling of names, and also the list of references is kept unchanged. This article examines Zhamsran, originally a Mongolian deity who transformed into a defender of the faith, and Bakula or Nakula, the fifth of 18 arhats.
