30th anniversary of the Regional Branch of the Ural, Siberia and the Far East of the Russian Academy of Arts

Issue № 3 (6) 2017 of “The Art of Eurasia” Journal is dedicated to the 30th anniversary of the Regional Branch of the Ural, Siberia and the Far East of the Russian Academy of Arts. With great efforts of artists and art historians from Siberia, Moscow, and Leningrad, this Department was established in Krasnoyarsk. This issue of the Journal tells about the history of the Academy Branch, as well as a number of personal exhibitions of its artists –– Galina Vizel, Nikolai Rothko, Anatoly Zolotukhin, German Pashtov, Valerian Sergin, Georgy Kichigin, Yuri Ishkhanov, Mikhail Ombysh-Kuznetsov, Vitaly Smagin and his artschool.

Studies of the art of the XX––XXI centuries are published in the heading of the same name. Here, articles are devoted to the work of graphic artist Tatyana Ashkinazi, landscape painter Leonard Turzhansky, “happy artist” Lyudmila Nikitina. For the first time, the memoirs of H. Sodnomtseren, a participant in the majority of Soviet-Mongolian art expeditions, which have been regularly carried out since the 1980s, are presented.

In the heading “Eurasian Heritage” felt products are considered in the aspect of ethnic traditions of artistic processing of felt, features of ornament. The authors presented an analysis of items from both Russian collections (the Museum of Anthropology and Ethnography named after Peter the Great, the Russian Ethnographic Museum, the Museum named after Zaya Pandita of Kalmyk Research Center of Russian Academy of Sciences and the National Museum of the Republic of Kalmykia named after N.N. Palmov), and abroad –– Kyrgyzstan (from the Gapar Aitiev Kyrgyz National Museum) and Mongolia.

In the “Philosophy and Theory of Art” section, an article by an Indian author devoted to the aesthetics of the environment in miniatures has been published. Also here, Russian researchers talk about the metaphysics of nature from the standpoint of T. Burckhardt's art criticism of Chinese landscape painting.

Brief reviews of exhibitions at the Russian Academy of Arts are published in the “Academy News” section.
