March 5-30, 2023 The Regional Branch of the Urals, Siberia and the Far East invites you to the exhibition "Metahistory: The Path of a Nomad". The exposition presents paintings, drawings and sculptures by Chingiz Shenkhorov and Yevgeny Bolsoboev.
The art of Buryatia is rich in bright and talented artists. Born of an ancient tradition, they combine in their work the spirit of their land and the classical Russian fine art school, creating a unique contemporary Buryat art.
The exhibition "Metahistory: The Way of the Nomad" presents paintings by the Academician of the Russian Academy of Arts, Honoured Artist of Russia, People's Artist of the Republic of Buryatia Chingiz Badmayevich Shenkhorov, as well as paintings, drawings and sculptures by the Chairman of the Buryat Republican branch of the "Union of Artists of Russia", Honoured Artist of the Republic of Buryatia, Evgeny Anatolyevich Bolsoboev.
What is unique is that both artists work in several art forms: painting, graphics and sculpture are present on an equal footing in their work. The variety of genres and styles is striking — portraits, landscapes, everyday scenes and abstract compositions, realistic, elaborate images and bold generalizations.
The main theme for artists is the history and beauty of their native land. Steppes and mountains, nomads and their way of life, legends and tales — all this is intertwined in the compositions, creating a unique story about the nomadic cultures of southeastern Siberia. An important stage in the work of many artists of Buryatia is the work with images from the epic "Geser". For Chingiz Shenkhorov, who worked on illustrations for the anniversary edition of the epic for more than ten years, Geser became one of the most important creative achievements. Yevgeny Bolsoboev also turned to the images of the Geser more than once, but he did not illustrate the entire epic, creating separate works associated with key characters and plot twists. Some of these works can be seen at the exhibition.
The polyphony of views, genres and plots gives rise to a single vivid image of Buryatia. Artists connect historical epochs, and, having led the viewer along the paths of the nomadic peoples of their land, they reveal to him the secrets of this amazing land.
