On August 28, a personal exhibition of Alexander Suvorov (Moscow) was opened in the large hall of the Sverdlovsk Regional Branch of the All-Russian creative public organization "Union of Artist of Russia". It begins the program of the IV All-Russian Open Biennale-Festival of Graphics "URAL-GRAPHO". The exposition includes 27 prints made by the artist in the technique of etching and his manners, from the series "Old Houses" (1981—2005) and "Reflections on Music."
Alexander Suvorov is an Honored Artist of Russia, academician of the Russian Academy of Arts, head of the etching workshop at the Moscow State Academic Art Institute named after V.I. Surikov, professor. In 1997 he was awarded the Gold Medal of the Russian Academy of Arts. In 2003, he became a Laureate of the State Prize of the Russian Federation in the field of literature and art for the series "Old Houses".
The graphic works presented in Yekaterinburg can be divided into two parts according to the content and language of the statement — impressions from field observations and the expression of his own experiences from the works of German-Austrian composers of the XIX—XX centuries. The series "Old houses" is based on documentary material — types of old houses that are waiting to be demolished. The artist chooses fragments of dilapidated buildings — windows, doors, interiors — as nature. Spaces are devoid of human presence, but each of them expresses an absolute anthropic individuality — they are not objects of depiction, but subjects of dialogue, silent but speaking witnesses of time. Cleared of fussy details and unnecessary details, combining generalized monumental forms and an endless emotional range of experiences, they give the impression of living beings channeling certain messages; the appeal has a metaphysical nature and symbolic sound.
"Reflections on music" clearly shows the features of Suvorov's artistic temperament, which is dominated by the pictorial-improvisational principle, which manifests itself as a visible embodiment of the element, subdued by the domineering hand of the demiurge. The music of L. van Beethoven, R. Wagner, J. Brahms, and R. Strauss became an impulse for creating abstract works associated with immersion in the space of the inner self, in understanding the mysteries of the universe through sound matter.
The artist was able to express visual interpretations of musical experiences based on complex associative connections due to the incredible richness of the graphic texture of the etching.
