The Yekaterinburg Museum of Fine Arts, together with the Regional Department of the Urals, Siberia and the Far East of the Russian Academy of Arts, as part of the celebration of the 85th anniversary of the museum, invites October 14–15, 2021 to the All-Russian scientific and practical conference “Art of the Soviet Urals. Artistic embodiment and debunking of social myths".
Russian art of the Soviet period is filled with phenomena closely related to the construction and existence of politically determined social myths. Starting from the 1920s and ending with the beginning of the 1990s, art goes through the path of formation, development and extinction of its own creative method - socialist realism, which has become a kind of means for the artistic embodiment of the ideology of socialism. An example of aesthetic opposition to the official doctrine was the practice of nonconformism and dissent, which launched the processes of “disarmament” and destruction of the mythologemes that existed in society.
The artistic life of the Urals throughout the twentieth century unfolds in line with the mainstream trends of official and unofficial culture. At the conference it is proposed to discuss the specifics of the art of the Ural region during the Soviet period, as well as the specifics of contacts with other art centers in the country. Particular attention is planned to be paid to the process of formation and implementation in the visual and decorative arts of the myth about the "Soviet Urals", which determined the theme and style of artistic works of the era.
