The Russian Academy of Arts, the Research Institute of Theory and History of Fine Arts of the Russian Academy of Arts invite you on November 17-18, 2021 to take part in the All-Russian Scientific Conference “The Birth of the Kingdom. Art of the era of Vasily III".
The conference will be held in a mixed format: in the White Hall of the Russian Academy of Arts (Moscow, Prechistenka, 21) and online on the Zoom platform. The conference will also be broadcast on the YouTube channel of the Russian Academy of Arts.
The main goal of the conference is to form an idea of ancient Russian art of the first third of the 16th century as a special artistic phenomenon with a pronounced stylistic specificity, which has not yet received proper interpretation in scientific research of architectural monuments, painting and decorative art.
Also, one of the significant goals of the conference is to establish the relationship between the processes of forming the ideology of the Kingdom and the concept of "Third Rome", which underlies the concept of the scribes of the first two decades of the 16th century.
The purpose of the conference is also to identify the role of Tsar Vasily Ioannovich himself in the activation of various cultural ties of Russia both with the East and with the West.

- Sacred art and ideology of the Kingdom;
- The role of Moscow and Novgorod traditions in the formation of the art style of the first third of the 16th century;
- Byzantinism and its own artistic tradition of the art of Ancient Rus; their interaction;
- The influence of Western art due to the expansion of contacts at the state level;
- The art of book miniatures as an iconographic laboratory;
- The fate of the Russian high iconostasis in the first third of the 16th century;
- Architecture and Piety; Power and monastery building; Power and urban planning tasks;
- Birth of a new understanding of beauty as a reflection of the beauty of the Divine world.
Conference schedule:
- The time limit for the presentation is 20 minutes. Illustrations must be submitted electronically (in the form of a Power Point presentation).
- The publication of the conference materials is expected.
Applications
Applications for participation in the conference are accepted until September 15, 2021 to two addresses: nii-arts@yandex.ru and drevrus-niirah@yandex.ru.
In the subject line, you must indicate: Conference_ Art of the era of Vasily III_Application.
The application must contain the following information:
- Full name of the participant (in full);
- Place of work or study (for undergraduates, please also indicate the name of the supervisor);
- Title of the report;
- Abstracts (from 500 to 1000 characters);
- Contact information: phone number, email address;
- Intended format of participation (face-to-face or online).
The organizing committee reserves the right to reject applications, the topic and content of which will not correspond to the goals, topics and scientific level of the conference.
