“Three centuries of Russian art in the context of world culture”

The conference “Three centuries of Russian art in the context of world culture”

The Association of Art Critics invites November 19-20, 2020 to take part in the international conference on the history of Russian art of New and Modern times in the broad context of world culture.

From the beginning of the 18th century, the fine arts and architecture of Russia have been actively involved in international artistic processes. Against the background of the prevailing tendency for the Europeanization of Russian art, the search for independent creative positions also continued for three centuries. Since the 1990s, the discourses of "globalization" and "national identity" have always been present in Russian art, contributing to an interesting sharpening of priorities in the creative practice of masters of different schools, trends and generations. And the rapidly developing intercultural communication in recent decades, combined with new technologies, give additional dynamics to the flow of artistic processes and bring their own characteristics.

At the conference, it is proposed to consider various aspects of these trends, including the issues of influences, borrowings, adaptation, perception and rethinking of foreign artistic experience, as well as the formation of the national specifics of certain phenomena. The work of domestic artists and foreign authors associated with Russian culture is in the field of view of the proposed problems.

A separate section will be devoted to discussing the problems of history and the current state of art history and art criticism.

The conference is dedicated to the memory of Alexander Ilyich Morozov (1941-2010), an art historian and art critic, teacher, and specialist in 20th-century art. It is held on the eve of the 80th anniversary of the birth of Alexander Ilyich and in the year of the 30th anniversary of the Association of art critics, initiated by A.I. Morozov.

The jubilee conference assumes the maximum coverage of participants and invites, among others, novice specialists and art critics who are not members of the Association of art critics (AAC).
