Abstract

The article is dedicated to the Altai artist Nikolai Petrovich Ivanov (1923–1985). N.P. Ivanov was one of the leading artists of the Altai art in the 1960s — 1980s. The painter received a professional education, he studied at the Alma-Ata Theatre and Art School named after N.V. Gogolat the Faculty of Painting and Education; at the Moscow State Academic Art Institute named after V.I. Surikov. His teachers were such artists as V.R. Volkova, D.I. Kuznetsova, A.M. Cherkassky, L.P. Leontiev, K.M. Maksimov, V.K. Nechitailo and others. The article presents a study based on materials from the State Art Museum of the Altai Krai and documents stored in the State Archives of the Altai Krai, as well as articles about the artist and catalogues. Thus, it was possible to restore the main stages of the life and work of the painter. For the first time, previously unpublished materials are introduced into scientific circulation as well as unstudied works by N.P. Ivanov.
