Abstract
This article is focused on the relationship between the work of the American avant-garde artist Jean-Michel Basquiat and the processes on the New York art scene of the 1980s. This period was marked by the emergence of American postmodernism. At this time with neo-expressionism, the so-called “graffitism” developed, originating in street art. All of them were reflected in the early and mature works of Basquiat. The author pays attention to both the materials and surfaces for the works, and the thematic development of the artist’s works, as well as the fusion of stylistic directions, joint work with Keith Haring.
