Abstract

The article explores the work of the Yukaghir artist N.N. Kurilov, examining the manner in which space and its embodiment are represented in his graphic works. It is argued that the author's unique organisation of space reflects his original worldview, thus rendering it a significant category of fine art. The relevance of the topic is determined by the fact that the work of N.N. Kurilov is a unique phenomenon of modern art in Yakutia, which embodies the culture and art of the indigenous peoples of the North-East of Russia. The works of P.A. Florensky, P.A. Rauschenbach, M. Merleau-Ponty on space in art, and the research of V.M. Rozin and S.V. Ryazanova on the organization of artistic space are used as a methodological basis. The research material includes graphic works by N. Kurilov, a catalog of his works, interviews and publications about his work. The researchers employed a range of methods, including historical and biographical analysis, as well as descriptive, comparative, formal and compositional analysis. The study provides a comprehensive characterisation of N.N. Kurilov's life and the circumstances that influenced the formation of the distinctive features of his graphic works. It also demonstrates the author's unique approach to artistic space, showcasing the compositional and operational means employed by the master. The study's findings substantiate the distinctiveness of the artistic space construction in N.N. Kurilov's graphics.
