Abstract

Receptions of antiquity are a prominent trend in modern Saint Petersburg sculpture. By incorporating classical themes into contemporary contexts, this movement provides a rich source of material for research. This article aims to systematically analyse the representation of ancient images in modern sculpture. Its purpose is to introduce and explore the work of modern Saint Petersburg sculptors who draw inspiration from ancient motifs. The article seeks to achieve several objectives: to introduce new names in the field of modern Saint Petersburg sculpture, to analyse their works, to trace the evolution of the “antique line” in contemporary sculpture, and to identify the main approaches and techniques used in working with sculptural materials. It focuses on a group of artists who work with both traditional and innovative sculptural materials and techniques. The article places particular emphasis on the new approaches being taken in the development of the antiquing trend in sculpture.
