Abstract

The article reveals some aspects of pedagogical activity that took place in the creative painting workshop of the Regional Department of the Urals, Siberia and the Far East of the Russian Academy of Arts in Krasnoyarsk. The workshop was led by the Academician of the Academy of Arts of the USSR A.P. Levitin. The article briefly presents the main stages of the life and creative path of the artist and teacher, and reveals the peculiarities of his pedagogical method. It also traces how these contributed to the formation of young artists. The work of Maksim Nikolayevich Rudnev, as it has not yet received a thorough art history description and analysis, is considered as an example. The article highlights the artist's formation and the main themes of his works. Based on a comparative analysis of works by A.P. Levitin and M.N. Rudnev, it is demonstrated that they belong to the realistic direction in painting and aim to fully reveal the psychological world of their subjects in portraits and narrative paintings. Rudnev's art tends towards generalisation in the plastic solution of the work, as well as symbolism in the ideological and plot plan.
